SIWES Report Dedication: Samples You Can Copy

The dedication is the easiest page in your report, and students still waste time on it. Here's how to write one, with samples you can adjust. Change the names and details so it fits your own situation.

First: does your school want a dedication?

Not every school does. Some SIWES units ask for a dedication, an acknowledgement and a certification page. Others leave out the dedication. For example, the KWASU SIWES guideline does not include a dedication page, so adding one will not earn you marks there. See the KWASU SIWES report format.

Check your SIWES coordinator's guideline or the handbook before you spend time on it.

Dedication versus acknowledgement

Students often mix them up.

DedicationAcknowledgement
PurposeOffers the report to someoneThanks everyone who helped
Length2 to 5 linesOne page, several paragraphs
ToneShort and personalFormal and detailed

If you need the acknowledgement, see SIWES acknowledgement examples.

How to write a good dedication

  • Keep it short. Two to five lines is enough.
  • Be sincere. Dedicate it to someone who really supported you.
  • Be specific. Say why, in a few words.
  • Do not include jokes or slang.
  • Do not list too many people. That is what the acknowledgement is for.

Samples

Short dedication

This report is dedicated to God Almighty, who gave me the strength and good health to complete my industrial training.

Dedication to parents

I dedicate this report to my parents, Mr and Mrs [Surname], whose prayers, encouragement and support made it possible for me to complete my SIWES successfully.

Dedication to God and family

This report is dedicated to Almighty God for His mercies throughout my training, and to my family for their love, patience and sacrifice.

Dedication to God, parents and supervisor

I dedicate this report to God Almighty, to my parents for their constant support, and to my industry-based supervisor, Engr [Name], whose guidance made my training valuable.

Three-part dedication (a little longer)

I dedicate this report to God Almighty, who gave me strength and good health throughout my six months of industrial training.
I also dedicate it to my parents, whose prayers, encouragement and support made it possible for me to complete this programme.
Finally, I dedicate this work to the staff of [Company Name], whose patience and willingness to teach me practical skills made my training a truly valuable experience.

Simple non-religious version

This report is dedicated to my family and to everyone who believed in me throughout my industrial training.

Dedication for a student who worked with a team

I dedicate this report to the team at [Company Name], who welcomed me, taught me and trusted me with real work. Their kindness made my training a memorable experience.

What to avoid

  • Long paragraphs. The dedication should not look like a second acknowledgement.
  • Copying the same sample as your classmates. Supervisors notice identical dedications. Change a few words to match your own situation.
  • Mentioning things that are not true. If you did not work with a particular supervisor, do not dedicate to them.
  • Wrong placement. The dedication usually comes after the certification page and before the acknowledgement. Check your guideline.

Page layout tips

  • Put the word DEDICATION at the top, centred and in capitals.
  • Use the same font and size as the rest of your report.
  • Centre the text or align it as your school asks.
  • Use no page number on this page unless your format requires it.

If you need the rest of the report too

The MonoEd SIWES Report Generator drafts the front pages (dedication, acknowledgement, abstract and certification) from the people and details you enter. You can switch the dedication off if your school doesn't want one, and you can preview the early pages free. Read and edit everything before you submit.

For the other pages, see the SIWES abstract, the certification page and the full report format.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is a dedication compulsory?

Not always. Some schools include it and some, like KWASU's SIWES unit, don't. Check with your coordinator.

How long should it be?

Two to five lines.

Who can I dedicate it to?

God, your parents, family, your supervisor or the company staff who trained you. Choose people who really supported you.

Where does it go?

Usually after the certification page and before the acknowledgement. Follow your school's order.

Is it the same as the acknowledgement?

No. The dedication is a short personal offering. The acknowledgement thanks the people who helped you, in more detail.

Can I copy a sample?

You can follow the style, but change the names and details. Supervisors notice identical dedications.
