Industrial Training Report Template (Free Download)

Students search for an industrial training report template because nobody wants to start from a blank page. Here's the structure, an outline you can copy into Word, and a link to a free template.

Universities say SIWES and polytechnics say IT (industrial training), but the report is very similar. Always check your school's guideline first, since schools differ in chapter titles, page rules and which front pages they want.

Free Word template

You can download the MonoEd SIWES report template here: MonoEd SIWES Report Template (Word). It follows common Nigerian SIWES formatting. Adjust headings if your school asks for something different.

Preliminary pages

In this order (small Roman numerals for page numbers):

  1. Cover page: report title, company, your name, matric number, department, school, date
  2. Certification: signature lines for your supervisors. See the certification page guide.
  3. Dedication: optional, and not every school wants it. See dedication examples.
  4. Acknowledgement: see acknowledgement examples.
  5. Abstract or Report Overview: some schools use the name "Report Overview". See the abstract guide.
  6. Table of contents
  7. List of figures and tables (if you have them)

The four-chapter layout

Most common in universities and polytechnics:

ChapterTitleWhat goes in it
1IntroductionBackground of SIWES, aims and objectives, scope
2Company profileHistory, vision and mission, structure, departments, organogram
3Work done (experience gained)Tasks, equipment, skills, what you learned
4Summary, problems and recommendationsSummary, problems, conclusion, recommendations

The five-chapter layout

Used by schools whose guideline separates the work from the equipment. For example, KWASU's layout is:

ChapterTitle
1Introduction
2Profile of the organisation
3Work done during the training
4Equipment used
5Summary, problems and recommendations

Read the full explanation in our KWASU SIWES report format and Al-Hikmah University SIWES report format.

Tips to make the template work for you

Want a draft instead of a blank template?

A template gives you the structure, but you still write every section. The MonoEd SIWES Report Generator writes a first draft from a short description of your training. Pick your school and it switches to that school's chapter layout where it knows it. You can preview the cover, front pages and Chapters One and Two free, then unlock the rest and download Word and PDF files.

Treat the result as a starting draft. Replace general lines with your real tasks, tools and dates. If you want your daily and weekly entries organised first, the MonoEd SIWES Logbook can connect to the report tool.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is an industrial training report?

A written report on the training you did during your SIWES or IT attachment. It describes the company, what you did and what you learned.

Is it different from a SIWES report?

Not really. Universities usually say SIWES and polytechnics say IT, but the structure is similar.

How many chapters should it have?

Four is common. Some schools, such as KWASU and Al-Hikmah, use five. Check your guideline.

Where can I download a template?

Use the free MonoEd Word template and change the headings to match your school's format.

How long should the report be?

It depends on your school. Many run between 30 and 60 pages, but follow your SIWES unit.

Can I use another school's sample?

Only to see the structure. Your report must describe your own training.
